Name Plate Meets Marcus' Arabian Counterpart.

The name plate got a little hot while patrolling the streets so it took a temp job filling space on the desk of an Iraqi's desk at the local police station. While there, the sign learned that "Povinelli" in Arabic means "person of many hand movements." The plaque enjoyed the nice laminate desktop and stains of English tea, thought the sent of hookah smoke and unbathed Iraqi police men was a bit much.

To deal with the tough office conditions, the plaque decided to make the rounds with an armed Iraqi escort. Here you can see the name plate being presented to a group of police men. Below is a plate put up on the wall in honor of the name plaque. The actual translation is classified.

Well now listen here, the name plate has reported in and given us now declassified pictures from its top secret mission into the depths of Iraq. It seems the plate has been very busy meeting on road patrol with our men in uniform. On a serious note, let's take a moment recognize our nation's birthday which is just a few days away and the sacrifice the men and women in our armed services give us everyday so we can enjoy the safety and liberties we sometimes take for granted back here in the United States of America. This weekend thank a veteran.

The Iraqis were very friendly to the Marcus Povinelli name plate. Pictured here we see the name plate coming up to a local Seven Eleven, run by a white guy from Iowa who talks funny and none of the neighbors can understand but they all agree he charges way too much for blank cassette tapes. Really, they're so expensive you might as well as skip the time it takes to dubb and just buy that recently released Michael Jackson Thriller album.

Apparently the temperature is so high in the summer months in the Cradle of Civilization that the plaque took some time to chill out below a tree planted by Saddam Hussein as a young boy. His dream was to become a landscape architect but those ambitions where squashed by his father who demanded little Saddam learn to herd sheep and someday become a mad dictator.

Back out on patrol in the streets of a nameless Iraqi city.

The plaque's complained about the swamp-ass hot heat melting its adhesive so it ended up spending the remainder of its deployment in the Command HQ, keeping watch over its post with a fancy looking American made sub-machine gun. This is one piece of office equipment you don't want to bring out into a field and beat.

We are unsure when the next time will be that the plaque reports back in for a blog update. When it gets back from its mecca to the holy land we will be sure to up date you.

The International Debut

Well our reports say that after a few crazy flights to shake off any possible trackers, and a short lay over in Kuwait, the name plaque has landed safely in Northern Iraq! That's about 8,500 miles from the sunny Las Vegas Strip, and probably a few degrees warmer.

Yes, its been a while since the last post, but the plaque is doing great! Its all refreshed from a trip to Vegas it took back in November of 2008.

There's no actual pictures of what the plaque did while there, but its safe to say there's a couple hotel room number plates that are hanging a little loose.

Next stop: Iraq.

November Rally: Plaque Comes Out In Support of Zeldin for Congress!

Shirley, New York - The name plaque of Marcus Povinelli make a quick stop in to see how its owner was making out on the Zeldin for Congress campaign earlier this month. The plaque stopped for a photo op with a Zeldin bumper sticker while there and shared stories of its 1,000 mile plus campaign to meet other name plates across the land.

The meeting took place just before the end of the campaign, making this post a bit dated, but when you're as busy as this name plaque, that happens from time to time. While in Shirley, the name plaque also had the chance to visit its owner's desk, bringing back a brief feeling of homesickness for our traveling friend, but nevertheless, it kept pushing on. Where to next? Only the plaque really knows.

Life's a Beach for this Plaque

After a brief layover in Newark, it wasn't long before the name plaque found its way to the beaches of Nantucket. Ah yes, the oldest of America's tourist traps was hosting the plaque for a few days. It wasn't before long that the plaque found its way to Siasconset Beach; for those that don't know its one of the nicer, harder to get to beaches of the island, where mostly rich yuppies own a home. So, the plaque invaded this space!
The plaque made many stops along the way, including to John Kerry's house on the island (not pictured). But it couldn't help but stop and admire the ocean view, which some say is way better than anything those fancy-smancy Long Islanders claim to have.

Heading to the Beach

Layovers are never fun, especially in a New Jersey airport. So here we are at Newark International Airport, zoning out the CNN on the flat panel tvs and people-watching as the minutes tick away to boarding time for the final connection to Nantucket. Marcus’ name plaque hasn’t been seeing much travel in the last few weeks so it’s come to keep me company on my trip to visit one of my best friends in Nantucket. This is a deviation for Marcus’ name plaque as it prefers the comfort of a slate-gray metal desk; another emotionless and cold item of the white collar world. Also the plaque doesn’t like going near water, or outside of the Empire State. But hey, isn’t the point of a vacation to do something 180 of the norm? Let’s consider this a fact-finding tour as it treks across the sands of New England beaches, and asks Massachusetts residents their opinion on the referendum to do away with the state income tax.

The Traveling So Far

Well the name plaque has been to many places so far, from Albany to Mayville and last spotted in Clifton Park, NY. In total its been a 710.1 mile trip (with today's fuel prices, that .1 mile is going to be counted). Thus far the plaque has met many other name plates and caucused with important leaders representing various interests in the Empire State. We'll keep you up to date on its travels around the region.

Headed to the North Country

It took a while for Marcus' name plaque to make it out of the Western parts of New York State; the Pony Express is not as reliable as it was in the old days. The name plate of fame made a brief appearance on its fact finding tour across the Empire State, at the Treadwell for Congress Office in the 20th CD. Unfortunately Sandy was out campaigning so the name plate was left to have a conference with just the door sign.

Marcus’ name plaque has certainly traveled some distance to get here and we'd like to thank the men and women of the U.S. Postal Service for their outstanding job of delivering it quickly and intact.
Little may you know, Chautauqua County is home to comedic pioneer Lucille Ball and one of the last bastions of Amish Life in New York State. Unfortunately the plaque didn't go for a ride on a horse and buggy (for some reason Amish don't like cameras), or visit the Lucille Ball museum in Jamestown, though it did have an interesting time.

The plaque had a heart to heart with an Erie County Lake Trout where it learned how to make a mean pan-seared fish dish.

Reports also indicate Marcus' plaque had a plaque-to-plaque discussion with the county executive. This plaque sure knows how to hold an audience!

The plaque gets some face time with former President Bush.

First Stop: Ohio?

Well it’s mailed off now. Marcus’ name plaque is now on its way to the farthest end of New York State –Chautauqua County. Not quite Ohio, as former Attorney General candidate Jeannie Pirro would have thought. But it’s going to be a several day, 352 mile-long journey to the Southern Tier for the plaque. I must admit, it took a while for me to get the plaque started on this prank, though it could not be sent on just any day; I had to wait until Marcus’ office mischief reached a level of intolerance. That came yesterday when he messed with my flags again despite several warnings. I mean come on, you don’t disgrace the flag -it’s against etiquette, flag etiquette! And it’s my desk!

I failed to take a picture of the name plaque before it went in the mail (this my first semi-pro prank!), though I did document the mailing with a snap shot of the receipt for the record. I have been promised a picture of the plaque when it reaches its next destination.

The Prank

The pranktim (read that prank + victim) of this operation is a long-time friend. He’s been part of my college crew since we met at a community college outside Syracuse, NY. April this year he began working for the same office as I do, and somehow we got onto the conversation that he should get a name plaque for his cubical because everyone else has one. He told me “I don’t need one, I don’t want people knowing who I am!” I think someone took that as a double negative because three weeks later he had one on his desk.

Marcus objected and moved it to a shelf above the coat rack. Another co-worker (read NOT this guy) took it on his/her self to hide it somewhere in the office. Yeah, for about two months we played the game “Where’s the Name Plaque?” It was enjoyable. I even participated once or twice but by August we hid it everywhere possible and Marcus just stopped playing along. It disappeared –to where no one knew, until now. This is the story of one name plaque's travel across the 62 counties of New York State. I present to you….. Tale of the travling Name Plaque!
